What are Ombre Brows?

Ombre Brows is a semi-permanent makeup technique that can be a great option for many people looking to enhance their natural beauty and achieve a subtle, striking, waterproof, and smudge-proof brow. It is especially suitable for individuals with sparse or patchy eyebrows as it can create a more defined and polished look, while still looking natural. It is done with the use of a specialized machine that deposits colour pigment into the skin. The colour is gradually blended from a darker shade at the tail of the brow to a lighter shade at the brow beginning, creating a natural-looking gradient effect.

How long does the procedure take?

The Ombre Powder Brows procedure is typically a two-part process with 4-6 weeks between the two sessions.

The first session takes about 2.5-3 hours. It also includes a consultation, which typically takes about 20 minutes, during which your skin type and medical conditions are assessed to determine if you are eligible for the treatment.

The second session, known as a touch-up, takes place 4-6 weeks after the initial session to carry out any minor necessary touch-ups. It takes about 1.5-2 hours. This session is important as everyone heals differently and the outcome can vary. Certain areas may not pick up during the first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment colour may need to be adjusted; brow thickness and more strokes can be added. Individuals with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch-up session as oils tend to lighten the pigment. The touch-up session is when the technician will refine the brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the colour for the whole year.

Do I need to have a patch test?

A patch test is a precautionary measure performed to confirm that a person does not have an allergy to the pigments and products that will be used.

If you undergo a patch test for permanent makeup and your skin shows no reactions, that is a good sign and indicates that it is safe for you to proceed with the treatment. However, if you experience any allergic reactions, such as redness, itching, inflammation, irritation, rashes, blisters, or bumps, the test is negative and it is not safe for you to get the cosmetic tattoos.

How long do Ombre brows last?

Ombre brows can last anywhere from two to three years. The colour retention will depend on a number of factors, such as lifestyle, skin type, sun exposure, health condition, etc. and results may vary from person to person.

What are the main benefits of Ombre brows?

The main benefits of Ombre Powder Brows include:

  • It is suitable for all skin types, unlike microblading which may not work well on oily or darker skin.
  • The Ombre powder technique can create a fuller, more defined look.
  • The results can last up to 3 years with annual touch-ups.
  • It is less invasive than microblading and less painful as well.

However, it is always important to consult with a technician beforehand to ensure that the procedure is suitable for you and your individual needs.

Who is a good candidate for Ombre brows?

Ombre Powder Brows are suitable for all skin types and are a great option for individuals with oily skin or very dark hair.

Who is not a good candidate for Ombre brows?

Certain health conditions or medications may make the procedure unsuitable. Individuals with pre-existing health conditions such as cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, autoimmune disorders, bleeding disorders, viral infections, skin irritations, vitiligo, taking blood thinning medications, major heart problems, pregnancy, organ transplants, and uncontrolled high blood pressure should consult with a doctor before booking the treatment.

It is vital to disclose any relevant information about your health, so I can advise whether the procedure is suitable for you.

Does the procedure hurt?

The pain threshold can vary from person to person. I may use a safe topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort during the procedure. However, it is important to note that some level of discomfort may still be experienced, but it is usually minimal and manageable.

What is the aftercare?

Aftercare is a very important step in the process. It usually lasts up to 2 weeks. During this healing period, it is important to avoid activities that will cause the brows to get soaking wet, such as swimming, long showers, going to the sauna, etc. However, it is important to wash your eyebrows regularly and carefully, with sterile water and antibacterial soap and to carefully dry them afterward.

Avoid applying makeup or skincare products on the eyebrows, and avoid picking, rubbing, or scratching the area.

Exposure to direct sunlight or tanning beds can cause the pigmentation to fade or change colour, so it is important to avoid these activities during the healing period.

Failure to follow the prescribed aftercare instructions can affect the final results and potentially cause infection.

How long after can I wear makeup?

You should refrain from wearing all makeup on or near the treated area for a minimum of two weeks. This is because the area is very delicate and vulnerable to infections during the days following the procedure.
